WRC Commission President Carlos Barbosa defended their decision !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! when Lorenzo Bertelli reported dizziness and nausea after a crash at Rally Portugal, claiming he “was very anxious to go to the arms of his mother, that’s all it was.”

Barbosa was referring to the fact that Bertelli is the son of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and presumes that he expected special treatment just so that he wouldn’t have to wait in the woods for hours like any other crashed, uninjured rally driver would. Bertelli, of course, disagrees with this assessment, claiming to have hit his helmeted head on the roll cage during the crash and not feeling well after 20 minutes.

Between this and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to the ground, rather than sending firefighters to put it out, I’m not seeing a lot of concern for safety here. What bothers me more is this attitude is coming not from Rally Portugal officials, but the President of the WRC Commission, which extends that lax attitude to the entire series. I hope it won’t take spectator and/or driver deaths to change this like it did in the Group B days.

That’s just... wow. Do you have a link to the statement by Barbosa or the article this came from?

That sounds like a very childish response from Mr Barbosa. I’m not sure what else could be said...

Just run the races on the Isle of Man and we won’t care how many people die.

Holy shit. Even if it’s true, it doesn’t matter. Send the fucking ambulance. I almost can’t believe what I’m reading.

That’s different. People know that safety there is minimal, and that’s why pro factory teams don’t compete. The WRC is an FIA event. Even at the TT, I’m sure that the organizers would have sent ambulance if there was a possible head injury.

What a load of crap. I don’t care who you are related to, a request for EMS should always be honored
